Workshop: The Art of the Opening Line

How do you captivate a reader from the very first line? In this hands-on virtual workshop, fiction author Sharon Bala examines opening passages from both fiction and non-fiction to uncover what makes a beginning compelling. Through close reading and discussion, the session explores clarity and curiosity, the purpose of prologues and prefaces, and how to identify the REAL first sentence of a story.

I’ll be leading this workshop as part of the Festival of Literary Diversity’s online festival. NOTE: the times listed are EST. Tickets are on sale now.
